We loved the Kennebunk area and the Port community, but the commute was too long and also our landlord was a psychopath who we had to call the police on several times (and had a long history of stalking/harassing people and was well known in the town for it which was why the house had been a deal too good to be true!)

I couldn’t take the immense stress during my already hard pregnancy so luckily we found this new house and could finally afford to pay the premium price to rent in Portland. It was worth every penny to feel safe in my home again, and have Alex super close by while working. It felt more like a townhouse as we were on a ‘busy’ road in the front, even though from the window I’m facing we had a gorgeous view of the hills and mountains beyond a pristine woodland wildlife sanctuary. We had a beautiful deck out back and even a hot tub we never got to use, but the yard ended abruptly in an extremely steep cliff that was incredibly dangerous for kids so they couldn’t just run free.

Sadly, the house looked new but had been badly neglected and had extensive mold problems (including us having to replace the refrigerator as soon as we moved in) which triggered Ariana to have sleep apnea and other medical issues (according to the doctors) so we knew we had to leave. Amazingly, Alex landed a dream job in Boston not long after this and we left right away, even putting our stuff in storage and living for a month in a long-stay hotel suite while we looked for a new place. There were some beautiful properties in New Hampshire we almost got but lost due to the intense housing competition, which was sad. Nice or even decent places would be rented the same day they were listed, so you had to get in touch within hours or you wouldn’t even make the viewing list!

We found a small 4-bedroom house in a quiet Burlington neighborhood and after losing out on so many other places we took it immediately, which never ends well, of course. Ariana had her tonsil and adenoid surgery as soon as we moved in but thankfully we were near Boston Children’s who gave her the best care with the world’s best surgeon, and it cured the sleep apnea. I gave birth to Arthas after less than two weeks in Burlington and right after Ariana was recovering. We really miss living in Maine, especially the delicious food, reasonable prices, relaxed lifestyle and the friendly, happy people… but hopefully we will be able to move back again in the future, when we can buy again or build our own dream house.

I have almost no images during the time I was pregnant with Arthas because I was intensely sick with severe hyperemesis gravidarum, however, I did manage to put on makeup for one day.
