Obviously since we live at the tip of an island there aren’t a lot of businesses out here, and even though it is a ‘wealthy’ area they have only one pediatrician in town… and they are, let’s say incompetent and unprofessional, though I could be a lot more colorful. So instead, a local mom recommended a place in Wading River, which is 40+ minutes away but very well reviewed.

Always trust other moms! We went to this doctor last week for Ariana and Arin’s yearly well visits and the office is very nice and they pride themselves on low to no wait times! They put us immediately in a room last week and today we waited for maybe 5 minutes, and of course were the only ones in there – plus they have separate waiting rooms for sick visits and well visits so you can feel a little more hygienic.

The kids, since we have had such bad luck with pediatricians in the past few years, were behind on their shots. Well, Arin was all set and so was Alistair, but Ariana and Arthas both needed some – Ariana had to have four! Arthas had to have 3, plus he has to go back in a few weeks for another two! Ariana also has one last booster shot in 6 months, and then she’ll be all set until she’s 11 or something, like Alistair is.

I wasn’t worried about driving 45 minutes to a doctor since as a kid, and when Arin was little, we lived in the middle of no where and that was pretty normal. There are a lot of urgent care centers and two ERs nearby so if anything immediate happens we are all set, so I don’t feel worried about having a long drive when the kids are super sick. Plus, they are affiliated with one of the urgent cares in Riverhead – the one Ariana had her COVID test at – so they are open pretty much all the time.

Not to mention, Wading River is on the North Road, so it is one straight line of driving basically the whole way, and it is such a charming and pretty ride! Especially closer to the doctor, the road is all scenic farms, pumpkin patches, orchards and beautiful open fields. Closer to us it’s almost all vineyards with the occasional farmstand or tourist farm, so it was nice to see a new variety, it’s just a lovely drive and we got lots of ideas of new places we can visit.

Today it was Alistair and Arthas’ turn to go, since due to COVID they only let two kids and one parent go at a time, which was a little challenging because my kids are bananas, but not too bad. Ariana was so hyper, Alistair was a little salty and fidgety but Arthas was generally pretty sweet and settled. He did not like the shots though, the poor baby! And he already has bruises from them, and there was a lot of blood on the band-aids which may be because he was kicking, ouch!

So now I feel much better, we finally have a normal pediatrician in the year of 2021 and the kids are all vaccinated and healthy, what an accomplishment! Now onto the eye doctor for Alistair and dentist for all the kids… which we actually do have booked too! Everyone in the family has December appointments at the dentist, though we are trying to get an emergency appointment for Alistair because his filling he got earlier this year (a metal filling, so awful) fell out. It was a really terrible dentist, another example of the poor quality of local professionals, so we are going to a practice in the ‘big city’ of Riverhead.

I didn’t get any pictures with Ariana and Arin because I was stressed out and didn’t think of it (though we did stop at Burger King for ch’kings!) so I wanted to get some of the little brothers at their first solo physical together. Of course, I forgot to bring masks for the little guys but luckily there were two of Ariana’s masks in the car, that’s why they’re both wearing feminine ones. Alistair quite brilliantly turned his inside out so the grey lining is showing instead of the petal pink side.

I thought it was hilarious and also that they were so cute, so while we were waiting to be let into the building (they have you call at the door and then the receptionist comes to let you inside), I took a bunch of photos and I couldn’t decide which ones I like best so here’s a bunch of them!
