Secret Beach in July

There is a small, ‘secret’ beach just down the road from us. It also happens to be on the way to the main local beach that we walk to, but I personally never really went to the ‘secret’ beach because I assumed it was too small and boring. My mom and my sister used to walk down there often, and it is a little closer than the main beach so we gave it a try this summer… and it was actually really fun!

It’s a beautiful, quiet, sandy spot with a leafy forest lining the back and usually not very many people, if any. Of course, the one day we went with my sister it was packed, but that was a holiday weekend.

Both of these walking distance beaches are for locals only but this little one is a much better kept secret – you need to walk to the end of a residential road and then cut through what looks like a normal forest, but it’s actually a hidden trail that leads right to the sand and water!

You can walk along the ‘secret’ beach to the main beach on the right or to the inlet that cuts through the woods to just behind our house on the left. The mouth of the inlet is very fun because it has lots of tidal pools and shallows for the kids to splash in, and it’s cool to think we could just walk from our back yard to the other end of it.

Next year we will certainly use the ‘secret’ beach a lot more, even though it doesn’t have a playground it’s plenty of fun. Plus, it’s a short walk along the sand to the main beach anyway if we feel like it. It is nice feeling like we have our own private family beach again!

If you look across the water right behind Ariana’s head you can see Paradise Point where my grandparent’s waterfront house with it’s own private beach was… at least we still get to enjoy the view of it from this end, even if the house is torn down now!
