I hate it when someone I love is out on a stormy and dangerous night. Especially when they should be warm and cozy inside with me, instead of navigating treacherous icy roads during a blizzard. Maybe I worry too much, but isn’t it so much better when your whole family is safe under one roof? Leaving the light on for my sweetheart tonight… This stormy desktop background fits perfectly with how I feel, stuck in a snowbound cabin, all lit up against the blizzard and frozen darkness.

On the search for a delicious lunch spot Friday, we came across what appeared to be a newly opened bakery. Lanes may have been cut across – even though the exterior did not suggest a authentic fine European bakery, we were hopeful that they would at least have some sandwiches. Sadly, no sandwiches, but they did have a passable selection of pastries, breads, cakes, and other treats. I couldn’t leave without something for my munchkin, so for dessert he got a little decorated frog cookie which was promptly inhaled.

Fairy flower garden, here with a perfect little bubble perched on some white petals. I can’t wait to start growing again for this spring!

Do you know that quiet, still moment after the sun has set and yet the world is still full of a glimmering light? Here is that moment, by a lake with autumn leaves fallen like petals into the water.

If you haven’t already seen Andres Amador arts circulating the internets, allow me to be the first – he creates beautiful patterns and images on sandy beaches during low tide, on a massive scale, and the results are so lovely. It looks like he will also do projects and commissions for engagements, weddings, charity – now that would be a unique group activity. When asked why he makes these works, he stated simply because it was fun, and that he got to be at…

I love hiking through the woods, even when it’s cold. Here we have a lot of pine forests and uneven land, which makes for interesting, winding hikes even in the woods behind our house. The Japanese call this experience ‘forest bathing’ and view it as a restorative and relaxing form of therapy. They use it to lower stress levels and even fight cancer… so I guess the things we instinctively love probably all have a deeply roots in making our lives more complete.

When we visited Pisa in Italy we made it just in time for an on and off rainstorm. We had to take shelter in a cute little cafe, but we were able to walk around the buildings for a little while first and get some great shots of the stormy sky.

A few years ago I was in D.C. on vacation with my mother and sister, and even though it was a warm early fall evening, they still had twinkle lights up on some of the trees. It was so lovely to see this whimsical touch against the weighty and important stone buildings and monuments – even politicians must love the contrast.
