Every time I go to the store I dream about fresh, ripe summer raspberries that we hand-pick from a local orchard. Every berry is perfect when you can pick them yourself!

A few years ago I was in D.C. on vacation with my mother and sister, and even though it was a warm early fall evening, they still had twinkle lights up on some of the trees. It was so lovely to see this whimsical touch against the weighty and important stone buildings and monuments – even politicians must love the contrast.

Rustic, old country barn, a little eerie, during an evening walk on a cool summer evening. What little kid could resist sneaking a peek into one of those dark windows, secretly hoping and fearing something ghoulish and exciting might be lurking inside… (He wasn’t snatched by ghosts, we had a leisurely walk back to his great-grandmother’s house)

This morning the sun was struggling to come through the cloudy haze – everything was grey and white, and finally it’s started to break through. I even see a hint of blue sky behind the snow covered branches.

I posted this on my personal facebook and was surprised by the amount of support I got. I’ve posted about Hyperemesis Gravidarum there before but this time, perhaps because of my swearing, it seems like this resonated with more people. I’m better to the point where I can actually be angry now, and even leave the house, but I dream of the day I can feel like an actual human again. Since I think this is a great article, I’m sharing it here too: The Ten Worst Things to Say to a Woman with Hyperemesis Gravidarum As I’ve said in…

An exotic and beautiful vista to eat an open-air breakfast from during my stay in Phuket, Thailand. This villa was situated in the hills that encircle Patong Beach, which you can see far below.

I’m not doing so well today, I had to start an antibiotic pill yesterday evening and this morning I’m having such a hard time keeping anything down. I’m only taking Zofran (anti-vomiting for my hyperemesis gravidarum) at night so I don’t have a build-up in my system anymore, and taking it “as needed” this morning was, let’s say, not effective. In the spirit of trying to enjoy the little things even when the big things are terrible, I reached for some trusty lemon curd. Right now I have the Mackay’s brand, and I really like it. There’s none of that…

Here’s a new twist on Thursday Travels – I’m actually in the picture doing the travelling. This was in Mexico during my first ever cruise vacation, and it was amazing! I loved everything about the trip, but Tulum was my ultimate favorite destination, and probably the most beautiful beach destination, ever. The Mayan Riviera is extremely gorgeous, but in all my beach stops I’d have to say Tulum had the most beautiful, amazing water I have ever seen. I wanted to run down the cliffs and jump in SO badly, I have never wanted to swim anywhere so much! Alas,…

I posted about the incredible amounts of fog and mist there have been with the odd weather changes, well here are some snaps from our morning drive. While it is frozen and barren half the year, we are lucky to live in a place with so much scenic beauty.

The National Trust in the UK is hosting an appeal to raise funds for its work, and also hosting a contest which will give the lucky winners a special access day trip to see some of their expert conservation methods at work. If you donate, you are automatically entered to win a trip for two to their studio to watch them repair some of these delicate and priceless artifacts. You can also check out the appeal for some highlights of what they are currently working on, and it’s a very interesting list. No gorgeous Elizabethan gowns at this time, but…
